Dennis "Denny" Schreck Obituary

Dennis "Denny" Ray Schreck, died surrounded by his loved ones, Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Autumn Cottage in Alexandria, MN after a battle with Parkinson's.

He was born March 9th, 1948 in Appleton, MN, the son of Ramon and Myrtle Schreck. He attended school at Appleton and graduated from Appleton High School in 1966.

He later joined the Army and was enlisted from September 16, 1969 - September 15, 1971. He received various medals and commendations during his time in Vietnam: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ 60 device, Vietnam Service Medal w/ Bronze Service Star, and Army Commendation Medal w/ 1 Oak Leaf Cluster. On October 20, 2009, he traveled to Washington, DC, along with his unit, Alpha Troop, 1st Squadron, 11th Armory Calvary, known as the Black Horse Regimen and received the highest unit award, the Presidential Unit Citation.

He attended technical college in Canby, MN to become an electrician. He worked for various companies until he opened his own business, Denny’s Electric, in Glenwood, MN, in 1992 until he retired in 2014.

He was united in marriage to Kathy (Nylander) on April 24, 1971 at Visitation Church in Danvers, MN. They made their home in Glenwood, MN for the last 36 years. Prior to Glenwood, they resided in Colorado; South Dakota; and various other places in Minnesota.

He enjoyed traveling with friends and family, hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycles with his wife and his motorcycle friends. He enjoyed spending time with his grand-daughters and numerous trips were made to the Dairy Queen or the closest ice cream shop.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 55 years, Kathy (Nylander) Schreck; son, Brian and his wife, Brianna, of Glenwood, MN; daughters, Becky Jensen and her husband Joe of Minnetonka, MN; and Tara Jacobson and her husband, John of Moorhead, MN. He was blessed with five beautiful grand-daughters: Alysa Jacobson, Lola Jensen, and Bristol, Beau, and Blaire Schreck; one brother, Darrell Schreck; brother-in-law, John (Raye Nae) Nylander; sister-in-law, MaryAnn (George) Landsberger; and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Myrtle Schreck and his in-laws, Alfred and Louise Nylander.

The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life in his honor on Sunday, March 22nd at Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood, MN. Visitation from 11:00-12:00 a.m. with a service at 12:00 p.m.
